Quickship

Ready Before the Guests Arrive

The season keeps its own calendar. Our Quickship collection ships sooner than made-to-order furniture, so the pieces you love can be in place when the first guests walk in.

The Living Room Guide

How to Furnish a Living Room You Will Use

A well-composed room begins with proportion, then material, then light. Here is how we would approach it.

Styled living room with sofa, lounge chair, and tables

Begin with the anchor

Every room is organized around one piece. A sofa keeps the plan open, a sectional gathers the whole room into a single composition, and a sleeper or daybed gives a guest a proper place to stay. Our sofa size guide lets you see the proportions before you commit.

Design for every day and every guest

Consider the quiet weeknight and the full house. A lounge chair adds a second place to settle, and poufs and ottomans move easily between footrest, extra seat, and occasional table.

Let the room breathe

Luxury is often simply space. Leave 30 to 36 inches for walking paths and 14 to 18 inches between sofa and coffee table, close enough to reach and far enough to move. Side tables sit best at arm height, and a media console keeps the screen at eye level.

Choose materials by touch

You will touch it every day, so judge it by hand. Leather deepens and softens with time, wool and woven textiles wear the seasons well, and boucle is cloud-soft and sculptural. Request swatches and view them in morning light and in lamplight.

Measure the way in

Before you order, measure every doorway, hallway, and stairwell the piece will pass through, and the elevator if there is one. Made-to-order furniture takes about 4 to 22 weeks depending on the brand and fabric, so begin early. If the date matters more, Quickship pieces arrive sooner.

Questions

Living Room FAQs

What is Quickship?

Quickship is our edit of pieces that leave sooner than made-to-order furniture. When the season is closing in, browse the Quickship living room collection and we will confirm timing for your order.

What is the difference between a sofa and a sectional?

A sofa is a single, unbroken line of seating. A sectional is a gathering of connected pieces, shaped into an L or a U, designed for deep lounging and generous gatherings.

What is a modular sofa?

A modular sofa is built from separate elements, seats, corners, and chaises, that you can rearrange as life changes. It is a layout that adapts as your home does. Our modular collections are a good place to begin.

Are sleeper sofas comfortable for everyday use?

A well-made one is a sofa first: supportive enough for every evening, with a mechanism that opens easily when someone is staying over. Browse our sleepers and daybeds and ask us how a particular piece feels.

Can I see fabrics before I order?

Yes. Request swatches, up to five at a time, and let the color and texture settle into your own light before you choose.

Can I mix furniture from different brands and designers?

Yes, and the best rooms often do. Pieces from different brands and designers belong together when they share a color palette, a material, or a similar visual weight. We are happy to help you compose a room that feels collected, not matched.

How should I care for leather and fabric upholstery?

Care follows the material. Vacuum fabric gently with an upholstery attachment, blot spills rather than rubbing, condition leather as the manufacturer advises, and keep pieces from strong sun, which fades even the finest color. Check the manufacturer's instructions for your piece.

What does Design Assistance include?

Design Assistance is a conversation with our team about layout, style, fabric, and timing, so the finished room matches the one you imagined.
