Designed for Serax, the cup and saucer began as simple forms cut from cardboard, with their uneven edges, fold lines, and naïve proportions intentionally carried into the finished pieces. Hand-painted, irregular lines trace the contours, preserving the spontaneity of Philips' original sketches and giving each set its own expressive character.
