British Chair

PP Møbler's British Chair brings together two ideas Hans J. Wegner returned to throughout his career. Designed in 1978, this chair draws the sweeping, sculptural back of his Chinese Chair into conversation with the familiar structure of the traditional British Windsor chair. Slender spindles radiate around the sitter beneath a continuous curved rail, while a handwoven papercord seat keeps the construction visually light. The result feels remarkably open for an easy chair, distilling two furniture traditions into a form unmistakably Wegner's. The design also carries a more personal history, reflecting the friendship between Wegner and PP Møbler co-founder Ejnar Pedersen, whose particular affection for Wegner's Chinese Chair helped keep that lineage alive.
