Bar Bench

Designed by Hans J. Wegner for the entrance hall of his own home, the Bar Bench from PP Møbler is an exercise in making very little feel like just enough. A rhythmic row of slender wooden slats stretches across the frame, allowing light to pass through and giving the bench an almost transparent presence within a room. Originally conceived as a place to pause between coming and going, its open surface is equally suited to books, plants, and collected objects. Designed in 1953 alongside Wegner's Upholstered Peacock Chair, this bench reflects his ability to turn an everyday need into something remarkably elegant.
