Gastis Chair

The Gästis Chair from Gärsnäs has the kind of simplicity that only comes from knowing exactly where every line should fall. Designed by Åke Axelsson in 1990, its slender solid beech frame rises into a gently molded back that follows the body with an almost effortless curve. The seat can remain in contoured veneer, allowing the warmth and grain of the wood to define the piece, or be softened with fabric or leather upholstery. Light enough to move with ease and stackable when space needs to shift, the design carries its practicality quietly. An optional layer of sound-absorbing felt beneath the seat adds another thoughtful detail, bringing acoustic softness to dining rooms, gathering spaces, and interiors where conversation is meant to linger.
