Serax's La Mère Deep Plate on Foot holds itself at a remove — composed, elevated, quietly commanding. This is a piece that understands the theater of a well-set table. The pedestal, sculpted from hand-formed stoneware, gives this piece a presence usually reserved for objects that don't get used. Designed by Marie Michielssen for Serax, it arrives glazed in Venetian Red — that particular warm, oxidized tone that the La Mère Collection has made iconic. Against a linen cloth or a dark oak table, the color reads differently at every hour of the day: fiercer in morning light, richer and more amber by candlelight. The slight irregularities in the glaze, the faint evidence of the hands that shaped it, are not incidental. Michielssen built them into the design philosophy. La Mère is a collection about inheritance, memory, and the rituals of gathering.
