In the late 1920s, Finnish architect Alvar Aalto began to experiment with the technique of bending wood. Collaborating with the furniture manufacturer Otto Korhonen, Aalto developed an L-shaped leg crafted of solid bent wood. The L-leg took a central role in Aalto's designs, allowing the creation of more than fifty different products. Patented in 1933, the L-leg still forms the base of the Artek collection today.
