Arkipelago KVTT1 Outdoor Chair

Designed by Rudi Merz and Kari Virtanen in 1997, the Arkipelago KVTT1 Outdoor Chair from Nikari is one of the founding pieces of the Arkipelago Collection. Crafted from solid oak following the traditions of Nordic woodworking, it is held together in part by wooden nails, which serve not just as a design detail but as a structural element, reinforcing and supporting the joints. Built using joinery solutions developed to let the wood move and breathe across changing outdoor conditions without compromising the structure, the design is finished in an outdoor wood oil and suited for sauna terraces, covered outdoor dining areas, and spa spaces. The oak will silver gradually over time when exposed to UV rays — not a flaw, but an added layer of character that only deepens with age.
