Silk Lantern Floor Lamp

Gubi's Silk Lantern Floor Lamp holds light almost like an object within its frame. A tall cylinder of natural silk is suspended from a slender black steel structure, hovering above the floor while casting a warm, diffused glow into the room. Walnut veneer rings trace the upper and lower edges of the shade, adding a precise line of natural warmth to its luminous surface. Conceived by Ejner Larsen and Aksel Bender Madsen in 1951, the design remained unrealized for decades before GUBI brought it into production. In its floor-standing form, this lamp feels especially architectural, using height, negative space, and a remarkably delicate shade to create presence without visual heaviness.
