Designed by Hans J. Wegner, the Wegner Ox Chair is one of the most daring and recognizable works in the history of Danish design. Introduced in 1960, it challenged the restrained aesthetics that defined Scandinavian furniture at the time, replacing subtlety with a bold sculptural presence. Named for its distinctive winged headrest that recalls the horns of an ox, the chair combines dramatic proportions with exceptional comfort, resulting in a design that feels as relevant and captivating today as it did more than six decades ago. Its ambitious construction and unconventional appearance made production challenging, and the design remained in manufacture for only a short period. In 1989, Wegner partnered with master upholsterer Erik Jørgensen to reintroduce the chair using innovative molded foam construction techniques inspired by automotive manufacturing. The relaunch at the Milan Furniture Fair marked the beginning of the chair's rise to iconic status and secured its place among the most celebrated lounge chairs ever created.
