Vermelha Armchair

The Vermelha Armchair from Edra turns a single continuous gesture into something wonderfully complex. Designed by Fernando and Humberto Campana, its enveloping seat emerges from nearly 500 meters of rope, woven, twisted, and knotted by hand across a steel frame until the individual strands become a dense, expressive tangle. The process takes several days of highly skilled work, with each successive overlap determining the character of the chair and ensuring that no two feel quite identical. Slender aluminum legs lift the intricate volume from the floor, allowing this chair to read as much like a drawing in space as a place to sit.
