Akademia Armchair

Designed by Wesley Walters and Salla Luhtasela, also known as duo Kaksikko, the Akademia Armchair from Nikari combines a classic, straight frame with softly curved armrests, seat, and backrest. The design draws from a rich confluence of influences: Finnish chair-making heritage, the quiet minimalism of Japanese design traditions, and the honest simplicity of American Shaker style. This design has its roots in the Master's Thesis work of Wesley Walters at Aalto University, Helsinki. Three years of careful refinement followed before the armrest version was brought to market in 2022. Crafted from sustainably grown oak or ash and molded plywood, it functions as a dining chair, meeting chair, or visitor's chair, blending gracefully into a wide range of interior styles.
