Linie Design was founded in 1980 by Keld Agerskov and Hugo Anthon, with the ambition of creating handmade rugs that merge Danish design and innovation with traditional Indian craftsmanship. Jesper Christiansen and Kenneth Nielsen joined in 1999 and own the company today, continuing to run Linie Design on the values it was established with: decency, innovation, and craftsmanship in every part of the business.

As the focus has shifted toward a more international market, Linie Design rugs are now sold in more than 70 countries worldwide, making the brand a leading developer of handmade rugs in Northern Europe.

The Origins

The story began in 1979, when rug businessman Hugo Anthon was inspired by a Copenhagen exhibition of weavers Vibeke Klint and Randi Studsgarth, whose handcrafted rugs reflected contemporary Danish design rather than oriental aesthetics. That concept led directly to the founding of Linie Design, along with an enduring collaboration with Vibeke Klint, Kim Naver, and Trine Ellitsgaard.

Ongoing Collaborations

Today, Linie Design continues its collaboration with a number of Danish textile designers, led by Head of Design Urd Moll Gundermann, alongside recognized names such as Kim Naver, Helene Blanche, and Marie Louise Rosholm. Together, the design team develops hundreds of new rug designs every year, reproduced by hand by skilled artisans in India.

Since 1980, Linie Design has been committed to exclusively producing handmade rugs with timeless Scandinavian designs. Each rug is made using traditional methods passed down through generations, so that every piece carries the individual style and story of the weaver who made it.

Inimitable Style

Indian master weavers use traditional methods built up over years of experience, so each rug expresses its own culture, history, and character.

Worth the Wait

An experienced weaver can tie an average of 8,000 to 10,000 knots per day, with larger rugs requiring several weavers working together over weeks or months.

The Finishing Touch

Pile rugs are sheared entirely by hand, with each loop and cut carefully considered to create the rug's unique three-dimensional texture.

Natural Qualities

Made predominantly from wool, linen, and cotton, with a continued shift toward organic cotton where possible, for natural underfoot warmth and softness.
