A central component of the loom upon which Heddle was produced gives this placemat its name. A weaver threads every warp yarn on a loom through the eye of a heddle in a process that closely mirrors working with a sewing needle. Raising and lowering these heddles in a certain intentional sequence generates a great variety of patterns in the weave. Heddle is safe for both indoor and outdoor use, resilient, and easy to wash.
This weave is available in custom sizes. Please contact us directly for details.

New York designer Sandy Chilewich is fascinated by materials. She specifically finds inspiration in underutilized goods, those cast off and considered waste in the manufacturing process, and strives to find these materials a purpose.
Chilewich’s first breakthrough in innovative textile design surfaced with her creation of the RayBowl™ in 1997, which was awarded utility patents and featured on the MOMA webstore during its launch that same year. In a search for new materials to use for the bowl, Chilewich discovered extruded yarn and recognized the possibilies of such a simple, overlooked material. She introduced her first home products to the design community in 2000 and has since created various lines of products with her woven textiles including floormats, placemats, totes and cell phone cases. The brand is recognized and revered internationally for modern design, ease of care and the durability of its products.
100% of Chilewich woven products are made in the USA. "Our textiles are made into tabletop and flooring designs with state of the art equipment in our own facility, and under our watchful eye ensuring the highest quality.”
