Sweden's largest publisher launched a competition for an affordable, wall-mounted, expandable bookshelf. Nisse and Kajsa Strinning submitted their design — and won first prize. Within a year, they'd sold 40,000 units.

International notoriety
The String® shelf spread from Swedish homes across Europe, the United States, and South America — winning a place on the world's most discerning walls.
1985
An icon confirmed
Swedish auction house Bukowskis held a Nisse Strinning exhibition. Its success confirmed String® had reached iconic status among collectors of classic design.
2004
A new chapter
Peter Erlandsson and Par Josefsson convinced the Strinnings to go back into business. Fifty years after its first success, String® was introduced to a whole new generation — and it was a hit, again.
