Artek's A110 Hand Grenade Pendant was designed by Alvar Aalto for the Finnish Engineer's Association building in 1952. This simple shape is made up of two cylinders, one inside the other, which reflects light both upward and downward. This modern silhouette has a surprising impact due to its size and the ingenuity of the design.

Artek was founded in Helsinki in 1935 by four young idealists: Alvar and Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen, and Nils-Gustav Hahl. Their goal was “to sell furniture and to promote a modern culture of living by exhibitions and other educational means.” In keeping with the radical spirit of its founders, Artek today remains an innovative player in the world of modern design, developing new products at the intersection of design, architecture, and art.

Artek combines modern production methods with expert craftsmanship, keeping within the original vision of Alvar Aalto. Regional sourcing, sustainability, and safety are pursued without compromise, both by Artek and its partners, ensuring ethical manufacture and design of the highest quality.
