Floral Pendant
David Trubridge
The Kina Pendant from David Trubridge draws inspiration from the delicate shell of the sea urchin, known as kina in Māori, which can often be found washed ashore on New Zealand's beaches. The design was sparked during a visit to Antarctica in 2005, where David encountered a frozen kina shell that had absorbed enough sunlight to melt the ice around it. This striking moment led him to create this pendant using the same mathematical principles that shaped his iconic Coral Pendant and Floral Pendant designs, resulting in a piece that marries nature with geometry. Crafted from thin plywood, this pendant’s organic, rounded form mimics the soft curves of the sea urchin’s shell while allowing light to flow freely through its openings. This makes it a perfect choice for dining areas, where it casts a clear, focused light over the table. The pendant’s woven structure, with its interlacing bamboo grain, adds warmth and texture, while the clean lines ensure it complements both modern and more traditional interiors.
Please note, this is available with a colored interior or exterior. Upon selection, the color that is named first will be the exterior while the color that is named second will be the interior. The bamboo, black, and white options have a matching interior and exterior.
Made of natural untreated bamboo ply. The flat pack kit includes the plastic assembly clips and a round white ceiling canopy. 10' electrical cord with bulb socket that fits standard 100 watt, 120 volt incandescent bulbs.
