Project Spotlight: A New York Home's Scandinavian Time Capsule

It's been a while since we've done a project spotlight – so much has been going on: we're opening a new showroom this year, adding more brands to our portfolio, and keeping up with everything in between. We can't wait to share more updates with all of you, but until then we'll share some good design. Today we wanted to explore a project that couldn't reflect Scandinavian design sensibility more – whimsy, color, and pattern working together from the brain of Michelle Sabin. This project inspires us in so many ways from the incredible color balance, ornate classic wallpaper, and quirky animal influences.

Interior Design: Michelle Sabin Interior Design

All Photography: John Gruen

Location: Ardsley, NY

Entryway

They papered the entry in the verdant 1940’s Vårklockor Print by Josef Frank. Frank's botanical patterns were actually the inspiration for the color palette throughout the space!

New and old ideologies blend together with a vintage bench and a piece by artist Emily Chatton.

Living Room

Michelle kept the living room neutrally grounded, then added pops of color with the vibrant blue rug and our Swoon Chair by Fredericia in Kvadrat Divinia 636.

Dining Room

The dining table here is a vintage farm table with brass inlaid accents, refurbished by Outland Projects (which we are amazed by). It also doesn't hurt that the house is filled with functioning fireplaces that elevate every room. You can see a new addition to our lineup –– Gubi's Beetle Dining Chairs, as companions to the beautiful custom piece. Speaking of elevation, there are not many pendants that outdo the Pelle Bubble Chandelier.

Bedroom

The master suite sprinkles color more than employing it as the main feature. This helps the graphic lounge chair filled with trails of leaves, small house plants, and the whimsical Louis Poulsen AJ Table Lamp stand out.

Hallways

This incredible Blommen wallpaper above (by Schumacher) brought this long hallway to life, plus added some black & white print into the mix.
